Estimation of losses and damages caused by flash floods in the commercial area of Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia

Flash flood is the most devastating natural disaster experienced in Malaysia. It can be defined as any high water flow caused by various factors such rainstorms, slow run-off, and broken dams. In Malaysia, typical disruptive hydro-meteorological occurrences are flash floods, which mostly faced Malaysian cities including Kuala Lumpur Kajang. However, floods may occur at time of year rather than during monsoon result losses damages. Thus, several mitigation steps estimations warranted to handle especially city level. Hence, this paper estimated amount direct loss damage due on basis commercial area Kajang City. This empirical study used primary data collected through face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 41 businessmen area. The average overall damages per shop were RM4,510.07 City 2014, wherein significant contribution comes from economic side. study’s findings serve baseline information for future studies Furthermore, present suggests extensive institutional research estimating country level an adaptation strategy.
